Mission OF SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL (“SVDP”)

SVDP is a worldwide Catholic lay organization that addresses the two great commandments: love of God and love of neighbor. SVDP was founded in 1833.

SVDP mission statement: 
A network of friends inspired by Gospel Values, growing holiness, and building a more just world through personal relationships and service to needy people.

As a reflection of the whole family of God, SVDP members, known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. SVDP collaborates with other people of goodwill in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.

• SVDP can offer limited, short-term financial assistance to people who live in the Katy area zip codes (other SVDP conferences serve residents of Houston zip codes).

• If you are away from Katy, please contact the main number of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We provide our friends with prayer and a helping hand. They are our neighbors, and we want to be there for them. If you need help or want more information on getting involved, please contact us by phone. Call 713-741-8234 for the main Houston number outside of Katy.

• All people (unless you are a registered parishioner of St. Bartholomew) needing financial assistance must have a referral from Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church. Please call Epiphany of the Lord and schedule an appointment for an interview and referral (no walk-ins are accepted at Epiphany of the Lord: St. Vincent de Paul--Financial help | Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Community | Katy, TX (epiphanycatholic.org)).
• Financial assistance can only be done for rent/mortgage payments, utilities, and specific medical needs (not medications). Financial aid for other necessities is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. For rental assistance, you need to get a reference from the St. Vincent de Paul at Epiphany Church in Katy since they do the interviews for us, and we distribute the food for them. FOOD PANTRY

• SVDP’s food pantry can provide food to needy families every 30 days. To receive food for up to 12 months, a family must submit a Food Assistance Application and meet the eligibility requirements of the Houston Food Bank. Please go to Non-Discrimination Statement | USDA to verify we are an equal opportunity food provider.
• SVDP partners with St. Bartholomew parishioners through sponsored food drives, the Houston Food Bank, and area grocery stores to provide a variety of canned food items, meat, dairy, and toiletries to families in need. Donations vary weekly.

DONATIONS

The Houston Food Bank supplies meat and other staples such as rice, dry beans, canned vegetables and fruit, peanut butter, and cereal; however, the food pantry needs your help in stocking the following items not supplied by the Houston Food Bank.

• Monetary donations can be made monthly via the 2nd Collection done by St. Bartholomew.
•  Participate in the food drives sponsored by SVDP by taking a brown bag and returning it filled with requested food items and toiletries to St. Bartholomew.


• In addition to our periodic food drives (listed above when one is upcoming), you can drop off donations at the parish office during current office hours.
