What is Natural Family Planning (NFP)?
NFP is an umbrella term for various approaches to family planning using the natural signs of fertility and infertility in a woman's monthly cycle. In a fertile couple, the man is fertile all the time, while the woman is fertile far less than half the time.
For a more detailed description, visit theUSCCB website on NFP.
Natural Family Planning is Effective By learning the signs of fertility and infertility, a couple can reliably plan their family in harmony with God's plan for human sexuality. When used correctly, NFP has the same range of effectiveness as the most effective artificial means, eg, the "Pill" – but without the moral objections and without the harmful side effects.
NFP Can Help with Achieving Pregnancy Because NFP works by identifying the fertile time, a couple with low fertility can often use NFP to help achieve pregnancy when that is their aim. It can also help direct medical diagnosis of a fertility issue when medical intervention is needed.
Natural Family Planning at St. Barthlolomew The method currently being offered at St. Bartholomew is a Standard Sympto-Thermal Method taught by the Stella Maris Center. This method is taught through a series of three 2-hour-long classes that are scheduled approximately 1 month apart. The fee to attend these classes is $80.
Please note that it takes approximately 3 months to complete the series of classes. It is important that you register for a class well in advance of your wedding date.
These classes are offered in both English and Spanish in the spring and fall.
To register, contact the appropriate teaching couple listed below.
