General Policies
Parish Membership and Mass Attendance
CCE students must be registered parishioners of St. Bartholomew The Apostle Catholic Church. Remember that CCE classes are not a substitute for Sunday Liturgy (Mass). Children should be led to understand that worshipping with their parish community at Sunday Mass is an important part of their spiritual growth as Catholic Christians. Mass is considered to be an integral part of their CCE formation and must not be neglected. Cannon Law requires that the sacraments be received in the parish where one worships and participates in community.
Attendance
Students should be in their assigned classrooms five minutes prior to class time. When a student is absent for two consecutive weeks (unexcused), his/her parents should be contacted by the catechist before the next session. After four consecutive, unexcused absences, the student will be dropped from the class role. For a student to have satisfactorily completed a CCE school year, 80% attendance is required. To be eligible to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, or Confirmation, a student must have successfully attended CCE the prior two years with a minimum of 80% attendance.
Tardiness
Please be considerate and have your child in class on time. Students who are late routinely may be asked to report to the CCE Office.
Leaving the Classroom
Students are discouraged from using the restroom during CCE class time. When necessary a student can leave the classroom with a VIRTUS TRAINED ADULT.
General Conduct
Students in our CCE program are expected to conduct themselves in accord with the standards of Christian charity, virtue, and good manners. Disruptions will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
Guests
Visitors are welcome in our community but are required to check in with the CCE Office before class begins. Guests are expected to conduct themselves properly, and guests who are disruptive will be asked to leave the classroom and be picked up by their parents.
If you have any questions, call Isabel Chandler, Director of Religious Education or Nellie Aguilera, CCE/ Youth Secretary at the CCE office 281-391-0839.
IMPORTANT
For children baptized outside of St. Bartholomew, a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate is needed before he/she can begin classes in September. Please bring this copy with you the day of registration. This is especially important if your child will be receiving his/her First Communion and/or Confirmation this year.
